What is greater than Christ for you? Remember in math, when they used to give you those problems? “X>Y when Y=…” Remember? Let’s solve for a different equation. X>Christ. Solve for X. You may say nothing. You may claim that nothing in your life is greater than Christ. You may be right, but you may also, even unknowingly, be wrong. Here are some ways to tell what is greater than Christ in your life.Continue reading
Too often, our prayer lives look eerily one-note. I’m guilty here. There seems to be the big three in all of our prayers: “Thanks God,” “Bless our food, God,” and “Heal so-and-so, God.” Now none of these, in themselves, are bad things to pray. In fact, they’re all good things to pray. However, we need to be going a whole lot deeper than that. What if we all connected our prayer lives to the mission of our church? What if we prayed like Christ? Like Paul? Continue reading
Sometimes, I get some interesting questions from kids. They tend to sound completely off-the-wall. They sound like something we all should know. However, adults sometimes behave in such a way that it seems like they’re asking that question too.
One night’s question was a big one asked by my 2nd and 3rd graders. “Is the Bible really true? All of it? All of it can’t be true.”
So, obviously we want to immediately say that we believe that the whole Bible is true. But what happens when we act like we don’t?Continue reading
This post totally could have been titled “Crazy Questions Kids Ask and What Happens When Adults Ask Them Too,” but I figured that would probably be too long.
Sometimes, I get some interesting questions from kids. They tend to sound completely off-the-wall. They sound like something we all should know. However, adults sometimes behave in such a way that it seems like they’re asking that question too. So, let’s take a look at the last question I got: Continue reading
To some of you reading this, it will sound odd that I have been asked before if it is difficult to be a children’s pastor while not being a parent (although the whole “not being a parent” thing should end in the next week or two…or three). Some of you think it’s a perfectly normal question. However, it is a bit like asking an apple farmer if it is difficult to farm apples while not being an orange farmer. That’s because the roles are so completely different. Sometimes, kids fail to grow in Christ because these roles are so blurry. Continue reading
What does “big faith” look like? What does “small faith” look like? The Bible is quite clear on both. We are constantly given examples of people with big faith. The Israelites had no idea that God was going to part the Red Sea. They were standing with an ocean in front and an army behind. Basically, it was a “how are we going to die” situation. They didn’t have big faith. Continue reading
First, keep in mind that worship is not just music. Corporate worship is a gathering of people to give glory to God. Private worship is giving glory to God by yourself. God does not take His worship lightly. Worship is your final fulfillment in God, the end-all of humanity, and Continue reading
How many of you have seen Star Wars: Episode IV— A New Hope? If you haven’t, you can check out the section I’m going to talk about below.
At the 2 minute mark, you can hear Obi-Wan Kenobi telling Luke to just use the Force. Luke foolishly switches off his targeting computer to get ready to fire two giant missiles at a 2-meter wide exhaust port. Then, you hear the voice of reason radio up from the Yavin base: “Luke, you switched off your targeting computer. What’s wrong?” Continue reading
